Summer ’17 Makeup Must-Haves

I blinked and summer was gone! And here we are already in the first official week of fall! Time has been flying lately… and I need it to slow down!

If you’re a religious reader of my blog, please forgive me for seriously slacking on posts! Life took an exciting turn this summer and I’m still adjusting to all of the changes. I’m still learning how to balance my time while continuing to blog regularly… but I’ll get there eventually. I’ll find my rhythm again. My blog is my hobby, my outlet…. something I love and have grown very attached to over the last year. I love using it to share bits and pieces of my life along with my favorite beauty finds and my plan is to continue doing that! Fall is usually when my creative inspiration kicks back in full swing!

And if you’re interested in hearing about my exciting new adventures and endeavors, I’ll be publishing a personal post all about that soon!

Now that the warmest months are behind us (except for those of us in Cleveland #heatwave), I wanted to do a round up of all the summer makeup I’ve been loving and using RELIGIOUSLY! Seriously you guys, I swear by all of the products below. I get asked all the time for summer product recommendations and about my summer makeup routine, and as you might have guessed, it changes as the seasons do – as it should! Most likely, you’ll notice your routine change too. With warmer conditions comes a whole new set of beauty problems and solutions!

I’ve finally nailed down a summer makeup routine, and that routine consists of products that won’t budge in the heat and actually own up to their long-wear claims. These products got me through the hottest, muggiest, most dreadful summer days. For that fact alone, they are SHARE WORTHY!

Urban Decay: De-slick Makeup Setting Spray

Oily T-zone? That won’t be the case anymore during summer with this setting spray! Nothing cuts the shine like this stuff. It’s miraculous, truthfully! I spray it on my face in the morning after finishing my makeup and it keeps the oils at bay for the entire day! It also works to make your skin look like skin again after applying setting powder! I can’t get enough of this stuff!

Clinique: Blended Face Powder

Setting powder is expensive. I’ve tried several brands and besides Dermablend’s, this is one of the best for your money! You’re getting over an ounce for $25 which is the most product I’ve seen for the price range. And it works. I dust this over my foundation and it keeps everything in place on those hot, hot days. For a melt-less look, invest in setting powder!

Marc Jacobs: Instamarc Light Filtering Contour Powder

Snagging this from my local Marshall’s, I took a gamble on this product’s performance. At over 50% off though, I thought it was worth it for the packaging alone. The pan is HUGE! And as it goes, this just happens to be the best bronzer I’ve ever used! I use it to contour and to bump up my all-over-glow.

Lush: Breath of Fresh Air

Truthfully, I didn’t know Lush made toners/facial sprays but when my aunt gave this to me as a gift, I was excited to give it a try (and, lets be honest, use it in photos/flatlays if nothing else)! I started using it after showering and before bed. It has the most wonderful, all-natural, skin calming ingredients so I thought it would work best to sooth my summer skin overnight. That’s EXACTLY what it does! A few mists before bed = smooth radiance in the morning! It’s the perfect dose of hydration during the summer months!

Neutrogena: Pure & Free Baby Sunscreen Face Stick

When it comes to protecting my skin from the sun, I like natural, extremely lightweight, made-for-sensitive-skin sunscreen. You can typically find all of this in sunscreen made for babies so that’s what I usually reach for. Most of the time, my foundation has sunscreen already built in but if I’m heading to the pool or want extra protection, I’ll use this sunblock stick underneath my makeup. It works almost like a primer! It’s breathable yet still very effective.

Lorac: Matte Pro

I’ve had this palette for years and it’s just one of my very favorites! I use it every single day during the work week for a natural eye look. There are only 8 colors and they’re all matte but I love them for my skin’s complexion. This is great for travel too!

L’Oreal: Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation

I’ve moved away from drugstore makeup for the most part just because I’ve found that higher-end products work better for my skin… as you might assume. Most (but not ALL) of the time, you get what you pay for. I’d rather my money go towards quality products that work and last instead of testing several $8 tubes of lipstick or foundations that I know will clog my pores or reek of chemicals. HOWEVER, a lot of the big beauty influencers have been raving about L’Oreal’s Infallible foundation and if they give it a thumbs up, it has to be good… right? Turns out, this stuff is gold! I mix the two lightest shades together (the only downfall) to achieve a skin tone match and once it’s applied in the AM, it DOES NOT BUDGE. It maintains it’s matte, flawless finish all day. You can sweat and sweat and it’s not going to slide. I almost hate that I love this but it works and I prefer it to luxury, long-wear, full coverage foundations… and you can’t argue with $10 foundation.

Urban Decay: Vice Lipstick in shade “Backtalk”

This summer, I moved away from liquid lipsticks for the most part. They can be very drying and I prefer a more natural lip look in the summer. So, I’ll either use a clear or neutral gloss or traditional lipstick like this one from Urban Decay. It’s such a hydrating formula, it lasts for quite a while and this shade is the perfect mauve. If I’m not sporting a simple gloss, it’s a semi-matte lipstick!

The Best of Tarte Cosmetics

If there’s one cosmetic brand I can get behind, it’s Tarte! I love their beauty philosophy, their packaging, their transparency about ingredients, their promotions, and the overall quality of their products. I’ve been a big fan of Tarte for several years now but just recently, I’ve noticed enormous growth within the brand! They’ve expanded their product line and have come out with some kick a** (practically magic) products! They’ve also done a ton of collaborating/PR with big-name beauty YouTubers which has helped put this brand at the top of the list! #TrippinWithTarte

If you’ve never tried anything from Tarte, get on it sister! You don’t know what you’re missing! Tarte offers such a broad line of products so it’s very easy to find several that meet your skin’s needs. I can’t stress enough the importance of investing in quality makeup and skincare. Trust me when I say, the key to flawless makeup and hydrated, healthy skin is a solid and consistence skincare regimen. Tarte makes this super easy and attainable.

Not only does Tarte do a great job of explaining the uses of every product via their social media channels (follow them on snapchat!), but they also have amazing promotions! Tarte frequently offers 30% off sitewide and this is when I stock up on all of my favorites! You don’t have to go broke taking care of your skin… keep an eye out for these deals or snag a Tarte value set! You can also pop in a Sephora and get free samples of anything!

Since there’s so much hype swirling around the brand right now, I thought I would do a one-brand blog post and share my favorite Tarte products! Usually, I include multiple brands in a post but Tarte is seriously killin’ the game right now. These products and this brand definitely deserve an entire blog post! So if you’re looking for recommendations or you’re ready to dive into the world of Tarte, keep reading!

Rainforest of the Sea Deep Dive Cleansing Gel

This cleanser changed the game for me! I don’t know how I lived without it! In the 6+ months I’ve been using this at night to clean my face, I have noticed dramatic differences in the texture, look, and feel of my skin. It melts my makeup right off and leaves my face feeling hydrated and clean. It’s a deep cleansing gel and yet it’s so gentle. I have very sensitive skin and this has done wonders in reducing redness and balancing the dryness. I would highly recommend this cleanser to anyone!

Shape Tape Concealer

This was so hard to get your hands on a few months ago but Tarte has done their best to keep every shade in stock (on their website at least), and there’s a reason for this! This concealer is absolutely magic! If you use Shape Tape then you know the hype is REAL. This will hide any blemish, discoloration, or dark circle ALL DAY LONG. While it’s hiding the fact that you didn’t get enough sleep the night before, it’s also hydrating your skin! I swear, there’s nothing Shape Tape can’t do. Grab a tube… you’re welcome.

Confidence Creamy Powder Foundation

I always keep a compact of this in my purse for on-the-go touch ups. It effortlessly absorbs t-zone oil but doesn’t leave that cakey look. It’s a fuller coverage powder which you rarely see with face powders and the formula itself is just perfect. It’s matte but wears sort of like a liquid foundation. It’s just so convenient!

Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation

I love, love, love the Rainforest of the Sea Collection by Tarte because it’s so hydrating, gentle, and yet effective! Everything from the collection is infused with natural sea botanicals and good ol’ H2O which makes your skin super happy and healthy looking! I’m someone who’s typically on the dyer side so I always look for a hydrating, long-wearing foundation. I prefer a matte finish as well and this foundation in particular is the perfect combination of all of those things. The coverage is buildable, it doesn’t leave my skin looking greasy, and it lasts all day! This also comes in 21 shades!

Limited-Edition Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint

I’m a real stickler when it comes to my liquid lipstick. I’ve tried dozens and I have my favorites but when I saw Tarte introduce a gorgeous new shade in their Unicorn Collection, I new I had to give Tarte’s lippies a chance! I’m so glad I did because this baby is literally life-proof! Their lip paints dry fast, stay put, are waterproof, and last for hours! This limited-edition lip paint in the shade “Festival” is just b-e-a-utiful!

The Mascara Breakdown: Best & Worst

There are hundreds of mascaras on the market right now! Each has it’s own claim, reputation, and effect. There are high-end mascaras and drugstore mascaras, and the crazy thing is, some of the cheaper tubes of mascara work the same if not better than luxury brands!

I’ve tried dozens of mascaras over the years and by now, I know what I like and what I don’t like. Some brands wear extremely well while others prove to be an immediate “nope”! As for the current top rated mascaras, some have fallen extremely short of their claims and I’ll talk about those below (you might be surprised)! On the other hand, one of my very favorite mascaras happens to be from the drugstore and under $10!

Besides always getting questions about my hair, people are constantly asking me what mascara I use! So I thought it would be fun to devote a whole blog post to what are, in my humble opinion, the best and the worst mascaras! If you’re in the market for some new mascara, let me take all of the work out of it for you and break down the good, the bad, and the downright ugly!

SIDE NOTE: Make sure you’re getting rid of mascara that you’ve had for 4 months or more. After about 4 months, mascara gets dry, clumpy, and something you shouldn’t be putting near your eye!

TIP: If your mascara is under 4 months old but it needs a little life brought back to it before it hits the trash, add a few drops of Visine! This immediately adds safe moisture to your tube and gives you a few more weeks of use!

Maybelline: The Rocket Volum’ Express

This is my absolute FAVORITE drugstore mascara and has been for years! You can find it anywhere for around $7. This mascara separates lashes, adds so much volume, stays put, and doesn’t flake throughout the day! It comes off easily with soap and water too.

Benefit: They’re Real

This mascara is my favorite among the prestige brands! It ranks #2 for best selling mascaras… probably because it creates to-die-for lashes! The formula is silky, not drying, and buildable and yet there is no fallout or running. This mascara produces long and defined lashes!

Maybelline: The Colossal Big Shot

This newly launched drugstore mascara is quickly becoming my new favorite! I trust Maybelline when it comes to mascara so I figured I’d give this new one a chance. It reminds me a lot of the Rocket mascara but it gives even more oomph to my lashes! Similarly, it stays put all day, it doesn’t flake or run, and the wand grabs every lash. For just over $8, this is a fantastic mascara if you’re looking to try something new! MONEY SAVING TIP: Check your mailbox/newspaper for manufacturer coupons! Right now, there is a coupon for $3 off ANY Maybelline mascara!

Too Faced: Better Than Sex

Ok, brace yourself. This is the best selling mascara on all of the top beauty websites…. and yet it’s HORRID! At least for me, the formula was chunky, clumpy on my lashes and a few hours into wearing this, it had run all underneath my lower lash line. I never have this problem with mascara! It was a mess. I returned it the next day. People swear by this mascara but the quality is just not there! For $23, mascara should stay put and create flawless, defined lashes!

Tarte: Lights, Camera, Lashes

This mascara is an older favorite of mine. You can’t go wrong with anything from Tarte! This often sells for half off at Ulta and for $10, it’s a great mascara! It creates a more natural look. It gives your lashes a little curl and it conditions them too!

bareMinerals: Flawless Definition

For a clean, defined, clump-free look, this mascara is what you want! This is another mascara that gives your lashes the natural look. It’s great for everyday wear! The wand is great too because it really separates and defines lashes!

February Favorites: The Rose Edition

The month of February is filled with love, Valentine’s Day celebrations, the color pink, fresh roses, and for me, rose-infused beauty products! My house smells like a rose garden all month long and I try to use products infused with rose oil or rose petals. I think it’s such an underrated and underused ingredient especially in cosmetics! The benefits of using skincare products with roses are endless!

Roses act as a natural anti-inflammatory, a powerful antioxidant, a toner, and a moisturizer. The scent of roses can also reduce levels of cortisol (a stress hormone) in our bodies! It’s truly a magical flower!

Some of the products on the market that contain natural rose ingredients can be on the pricier side because of the process of how ingredients are extracted. This shouldn’t deter you from going out and searching for affordable rose-infused products though! They’re out there! And as for the pricier ones, I’d recommend investing in just one. Some really are worth it!

So, let’s jump into my favorites! Below are the products I’ve been using and LOVING this month! My skin has never been more hydrated and glow-y and I think that might have something to do with all the dreamy rose-infused products I’ve been using!

Lush: Rosy Cheeks

I am so in love with this fresh face mask from Lush! I’ve tried so many from Lush and this one works the best for my skin type! It’s so gentle, calming, it smells amazing, and it leaves my face feeling so soft and restored! This is great for sensitive, irritated skin!

Measurable Difference: Rosehip Oil

I picked this up from TJ Maxx last summer. For the price point ($8), I’m really impressed with the natural ingredients and how moisturizing it is! I use this to remove my liquid lipstick! If you use a liquid lipstick that doesn’t budge, this will remove it effortlessly without drying out your lips!

Fresh: Rose Face Mask

This is one of those pricier products that I was talking about. This face mask will set you back $62….. unless you received the birthday gift from Sephora this year which included a travel-sized version of this liquid gold! This face mask has actual rose petals and a clearer formula that will leave your skin bright and hydrated! I’d recommend grabbing a sample of this at Sephora just to give your skin a little treat! It’s absolutely decadent!

L’Occitane: Ultra Soft Balm in Rose

I’m really not much of a balm person but I couldn’t pass up this purse-sized, rose scented balm and the cause behind it! Proceeds from this purchase helped support women’s entrepreneurship in Burkina Faso. I put this balm on before bed and it restores moisture to my lips and locks it in until morning while giving off a lovely hint of fresh rose petals!

Lush: Rose Bombshell Bath Bomb

Ok, ok… I know I’ve mentioned this on the blog already but it’s seriously amazing. The smell is intoxicating (in a good way) and once it’s dropped in the tub, fresh rose petals emerge from the core! I can’t imagine a better way to treat your whole body than a bath infused with rose oil and fresh rose petals!

Kylie Cosmetics: Valentine’s Collection Liquid Lipstick Minis

If you were lucky enough to get your hands on anything from Kylie’s Valentine’s Collection, then you know the obsession is real! I snagged the minis before they sold out and I’m so glad I did! I was a little shocked at how small they were compared to pictures but they really are mighty! I’m not sure if she revamped her formula or what but I’m crazy about these! Every color is to die for. I’ve used them every day since I got them! Of course they’re not infused with rose petals but I had to include these! The blush/rose shades count for something!

Top 10 Beauty Favorites From 2016

For my first blog post of the year, I’m sharing my top beauty picks from 2016! I discovered so many great brands and products last year and they deserve to be talked about! Amazing product finds shouldn’t be kept a secret!

The 10 makeup items that made the list are ones that work exactly as their labels claim, last all day, blend flawlessly, smell fabulous, and work well for my skin type. To me, this is what quality looks like! These are the beauty products I find myself reaching for the most. They’ve become regulars in my daily routine!

Tarte – Limited Edition Tarteist x Nicol Concilio brush set

When this brush set collab came out in August I really didn’t know what to expect… but I needed an affordable and effective set and I’m so glad I gave these a chance! They’re absolutely gorgeous (hello, gold)! At about $5.50 per brush, this was a steal for the quality. They DO NOT shed! I use almost every brush daily. They’re simply amazing.

Anastasia Beverly Hills – stick foundation

Foundation in a stick just sounded cool to me! It seemed more efficient too! Turns out, it is and I’m obsessed with stick foundation now. I use the shade “Ivory”. If you have an oily t-zone, this demi-matte formula is great for controlling that throughout the day!

Benefit – Dandelion blush

Besides how precious the packaging is, the blush itself is just lovely! It has the faintest floral scent and just a hint of shimmer. Since I’m so fair, I try to stay away from heavily pigmented/deeper blush tones, but this gives my skin the perfect, subtle pop of pink on the apples of my cheeks!

Becca – Shimmering Skin Perfector

If you follow highlighter trends, you already know Becca is one of the leading brands. I had to give theirs a try! I have the shade “Opal” and I’m loving it! It’s very subtle on my skin but gives off the prettiest glow when it hits the light!

Stila – Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick

I discovered these at the beginning of 2016 and have acquired quite a collection ever since! They’re just the best liquid lipsticks in my opinion. I can’t get away from them. They don’t dry out my lips and the formula, no matter the color, is VERY consistent. There’s no patchiness even with darker shades. They really do last ALL day, too! My favorite shade is “Baci”. I basically live in this color.

NYX – matte eyeshadow singles

This past year I got sick of paying an arm and a leg for an eyeshadow palette only to end up using 3-4 shades out of 8 or 12. I know which colors I gravitate towards so I started buying singles! Best decision ever! NYX singles, for the money, are amazing! I’ve been using very light, matte shades like “Whipped Cream”, and I use it as a transition shade before applying a darker color from the palette I’ll talk about later.

Taste – Shape Tape

There’s a reason they can’t keep this stuff in stock and now I know why! I finally got my paws on a tube in the shade “fair” and life hasn’t been the same since haha. I’ve really never had anything like this in my makeup collection. It hides every form of blemish, dark circle, and redness. It’s hydrating yet stays in place ALL DAY. Everything about this concealer is awesome!

Kylie Cosmetics – Holiday Edition Kyshadow palette

Alright I know I said I was done with buying palettes but I could not get over these colors and I wanted to give her formula a try. This is now my go-to palette, believe it or not! Her formula is to die for! The colors blend seamlessly and they stay put! I find that there’s very little fallout too, which makes me feel like I’m not wasting product!

Too Faced – Chocolate Soleil bronzer

This has always been highly recommended to me but I wasn’t prepared to pay $30 for a bronzer. Luckily, I received a deluxe free sample of it this year! What I love most about this bronzer, besides it smelling like chocolate, is that it’s a MATTE bronzer with NO shimmer. That’s extremely rare! I love that fact and I use this to contour and warm up the edges of my face!

Lush – Papa Noel cleanser

I recently started to fall back in love with Lush products. They’re all just so yummy smelling and filled with natural ingredients. So I got a sample of this and the next day I was back at Lush picking up a whole container! It’s the strangest cleanser you’ll ever use. It’s in the shape of Santa’s beard, it’s like Jell-O meets Play-Doh, and the smell is AMAZING! Once you figure out exactly how to use it to scrub your face, you’ll be amazed at its ability to soften and brighten your skin!

So these are the top 10 beauty buys that made me feel beautiful in 2016! Some are new to the market while others were just new to me, but they’ve all stood out among the many products I’ve used in the last year! I tried to keep the descriptions short and to the point but if you have any specific questions, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment below, DM me, or e-mail me at CayleyCouture@gmail.com

5 Hydrating Products To Use This Winter

Healthy, hydrated skin and hair is so, so important! It’s even more important during those cold winter months, and if you’re someone living in a place where it’s dry and freezing most of the year, then having a few heavy-duty skincare/hair products is a MUST!

It wasn’t until this year that I got serious about my skincare routine. My skin would get so dry, red, cracked, and itchy in the winter. My hair was brittle and putting on makeup was a joke. My skin was SO angry! I was using extremely drying cleansers and I thought I could get away with only applying lotion once a week if that!

I promised myself that this winter I would take better care of myself, get into a routine, and stay ahead of the dry, red, angry skin! And now that I’m getting older, I’m realizing how crucial it is to take care of what you got! There are so many great products out there that won’t empty your wallet so really, there was no excuse for going another winter with miserable, dull skin.

Before winter hit, I played around with tons of products to find out what I liked and what would work for my skin type and hair. I love products that hydrate but don’t leave a greasy feeling or look. So, I narrowed down 5 favorites that I can’t believe I lived without last winter! They’ve saved my skin, and if you’re in the same boat I was in last winter, this rundown is for you! Let’s dive in!

Neutrogena: Hydro Boost water gel

My aunt works in dermatology and she gave me a few sample-sized tubes of this to try. I used it on my face after washing it and as a moisturizer before applying makeup in the morning. I was in love with what it did. It dries almost immediately, doesn’t look greasy (even at the end of the day), and it’s extremely hydrating! No more dry, flakey, bright red cheeks! This is now my go-to, every day moisturizer.

Lush: RETREAD

This is a splurge item for sure at $32 for 7.9 Oz. It is super rich, all natural, it smells like a dream and oh my goodness… it will literally give life to your locks during the dryer months! This is a treat for my hair so I don’t use it unless we’re in the throes of winter or my hair is looking extra dry. I typically go through one container a year. And although it’s pretty heavy, it leaves my locks super bouncy and shiny. I love what it does! The only thing I don’t like is the rising price and decreasing size. This is a product that seems to get more expensive each year. Not only does it get pricier, but I noticed that the company has reduced the ounces too (I’ve saved a few of my old containers). If you check out this product on their website, you’ll see what I mean. Their stock photo shows 8.6 fl. oz. on the container but in the details below, you’ll see that you only get 7.9 fl. oz. It’s a shame because this is such a quality product! I realize the economy changes and I can understand a tiny price increase, but don’t significantly reduce the size of the product too. We notice, Lush.

Tarte: Deep Dive Cleansing Gel

For the last 5 years, I have used the same (horrible, drying, harsh, chemical-filled, cheap) face wash. I really didn’t think a good cleanser mattered. Just this year, I realized that was the root of my skin issues, especially in the winter! A cleanser shouldn’t leave your face feeling tight, dry, flakey, and flushed. I knew it was time to upgrade and find a cleanser that met my skin’s needs. I had heard so many great things about tarte’s cleanser and when tarte ran their 30% off site-wide sale, I had to grab it! And let me just tell ya, everything changed the moment I started using this! The flaking, blotchiness, and tightness has completely disappeared. I use this every night on my face and I don’t know how I lived without it! It’s so gentle and yet it removes ALL of my makeup, AND it leaves my skin smooth, hydrated, and calm! Great skin starts with a great cleanser and I can’t say enough about tarte’s!

Neutrogena: Norwegian Formula hand cream

Another skin concern I have during the winter is dry, cracked hands! I’m guilty of forgetting my gloves at home, and if you don’t moisturize before leaving the house or going outside to walk the dog, your hands are bound to become painfully dehydrated. This year I was determined to prevent that from happening…. Because who likes a million little paper cuts? So, I turned to this hand cream! It’s a very serious moisturizer. It almost reminds me of Neosporin. It has the same consistency initially but then it dries after a few minutes and locks in that moisture until it’s washed off! I try to apply this before leaving the house or before bed.

Dove: Purely Pampering Nourishing Body Wash

Believe it or not, I was using the SAME (horrible, drying, harsh, chemical-filled, cheap) face wash that I mentioned earlier on the rest of my body for the past 5 years too! I think I got stuck in a routine and didn’t realize how much damage I was actually doing or that there were OTHER products out there that would do the same thing, for the same price, without sucking the life out of my skin! So I picked up a little bottle of this Dove body wash to use while traveling this year and I was seriously amazed at the results. After one shower, my skin WAS actually smoother, softer and hydrated just like the packaging claims! I’m currently on my second full-size bottle of this stuff (in the scent coconut milk with jasmine petals) and I’ve never looked back.

BONUS TIP

As simple as it is, water is a huge part of healthy skin and hair. You can use every hydrating skin product on the market, but if you’re not drinking enough water throughout the day… it’s going to show. I carry a Starbucks cold cup everywhere with me (like the one I mentioned here in my gift guide) and I fill it up multiple times a day. It makes getting my daily dose of H2O easier. So, figure out what’s easiest for you and make sure you’re hydrating from the inside out!

These are my top 5 recommendations for hydrated hair and skin that stays soft all winter long! I’m loving each of the products that I mentioned above and I hope you try them out! Feel free to let me know if you’re absolutely crazy about a skincare/hair product this season!

Great hair and flawless skin starts with a good regimen… and you have to stick with it, too! Don’t skip steps and do them every single day! Try to keep the same 5-7 products in the line up so they’re actually effective. Always check ingredient labels to make sure your products aren’t loaded with drying agents like alcohol and salicylic acid. Look for lotions and cleansers with natural, soothing ingredients! If you have sensitive skin that becomes parched when the temperature drops, stick to these 5 items and you’ll be golden!

Cayley Couture Arbonne Review

The Arbonne Experience

I bet you’ve seen Arbonne swirling around your facebook or social circles! I know I have, and with their claims of natural products and dramatic results, I was curious to see what they were all about!

I’ll be honest with you. Multi-level marketing (MLM) companies (better known as pyramid scheme companies) give me the heebie-jeebies. These are companies like Avon, It Works, Younique, Scentsy, Arbonne and so on. I cringe when I’m added to a private Facebook group by a friend’s cousin’s roommate who’s selling leggings with a bacon pattern on them or mascara that promises to quadruple your lash length and secure a date by Friday *wink wink*! No judgment if you sell or like bacon leggings (I’m not even sure if this is a thing). I just personally prefer a gentler, less invasive approach to buying and selling.

Sometimes the approach to selling products from these companies rubs me the wrong way but I realize the people selling them are doing exactly what they’re being advised to do. And I’ll clear the air by saying I love Scentsy and I had a great experience with Arbonne too but that was only because the representatives made it that way! The consultants were informative, realistic, patient, they never invaded my Facebook newsfeed, and I never felt pressured or coerced into buying anything.

I didn’t want to get right into my review of the Arbonne products because I wanted to address possible ill feelings or hesitation of purchasing products from MLM companies like Arbonne. Although curious, I’ll admit I was hesitant myself.

My experience collaborating with this company for my blog, however, was extremely pleasant! A consultant reached out to me shortly after I launched my blog and we discussed the possibility of working together! Because I love trying new beauty products and then reviewing them to inform someone else who’s curious, I thought collaborating with Arbonne would be a great opportunity.

So, the consultant I worked with put together a lovely little basket for me filled with several different products and I agreed to provide an honest review on the Arbonne products I tried! Below I’ll discuss each product and what it did or didn’t do for me!

RE9 Advanced Skincare Line

arbonne-skincare-line

I’m all over cosmetic companies that pride themselves in either all natural ingredients or products that are formulated without harmful chemicals. Since Arbonne makes similar claims, I had high hopes for these skin products. The RE9 Advanced line is made with key botanicals that slow down aging, tone, and improve the texture of skin.

Unfortunately, I had to rinse steps 2-6 off my face shortly after applying it. My face started to get red and blotchy, my skin was burning (a sure sign that you need to remove the product ASAP), and I started to notice a few hives developing. It appeared as though I was having an allergic reaction to the products. I was bummed! I let Haley, my consultant, know and she told me this might be a reaction/my skin detoxing from my other skincare products. She mentioned that if your skin is used to a harsher facial routine, and then you put a bunch of really natural product on your skin, this could happen. Your experience might be different but keep this in mind if you’re considering these products!

RE9 Smoothing Facial Cleanser

arbonne-face-wash

While everything after the cleansing step did not work out so well for me, this cleanser by itself was lovely! It is such a gentle yet effective cleanser. I was using a harsh Neutrogena face wash before switching to something milder, and then I tried this. I do have somewhat sensitive skin but this left it so calm, moisturized and clean!

Pure Vibrance Fortifying Shampoo and Conditioner

Alright, when it comes to hair products, I’m cut-throat. I’ve tried hundreds of shampoos, conditioners, and styling products. After about one use, I know what the product does and doesn’t do for me. Right now, I have a pretty #HairGameStrong routine but I’m always willing to put another shampoo to the test!

I wish you I could tell you this was magic for me but these are a very standard, cleansing shampoo and conditioner. I would compare them to an Aveda shampoo. It’s almost too natural in the sense that it left my hair looking a bit flat, dry, and dull. Personally, I prefer a bit of shine and more softness. The Pure Vibrance line might be better for someone with darker/colored hair as it claims to retain color and vibrancy for up to 20 washes!

Pure Vibrance ColorLast Hair Spray

I fell in love with the smell of this right away! It’s so fresh! I also liked that it was in a sprits bottle. I’m so used to aerosol cans! The difference between this and my normal hairspray was obvious right away. My hairspray leaves a soft hold over my curls. It keeps them in tact. The ColorLast hairspray, however, left my hair very volumized and texturized! The curls looked more separated or piece-y and they stayed this way! Although my styling technique was the same, this hairspray created a completely different look than my regular hairspray! I loved this!

Makeup Primer

This was another amazing Arbonne product! I thought I wasn’t going to be able to use any of their other products on my skin but this was not the case. This primer glided on and kept my makeup in place all day! I normally use Smashbox’s primer, and I have to say, the wear is almost identical which I know is a HUGE claim! There are so many primers out there right now but if you’re looking into Arbonne’s makeup products, I would highly recommend snagging this guy!

Cayley Couture Top 3 Liquid Foundation Picks Best Foundation YSL Smashbox Stila foundation

Top 3 Liquid Foundation Picks

Cayley Couture Top 3 Liquid Foundation Picks Best Foundation YSL Smashbox Stila foundation

It’s almost the weekend! You’re almost there, beautiful! In the meantime, let’s talk foundation!

I can hardly remember what life was like before I started investing in quality cosmetics! Ok, that probably sounds a bit dramatic… but I’m serious. Ooof! In high school and most of college, I was an avid drugstore cosmetic girl. I grabbed my foundation, mascara, lip gloss, and finishing powder from stores like Walmart! And paying $9 for a bottle of foundation was pushing it. I was definitely not concerned with the ingredients either.

I smeared that cheap, drying, and most likely harmful foundation on my face and went on with my day. By about 3 in the afternoon, it had worn off anyway. Looking back, I wasted a ton of money. The older and wiser I got, the more I realized that ingredients matter and sometimes splurging on a product that proves itself safe is worth it in the long run.

Of course the price tag on some of these prestige skincare items still makes me queasy but now that I have the resources and the knowledge, I’m happy to explore products with outstanding reputations. If I’m able to see dramatic differences, then I’m willing to spend a little more!

Now I’m not completely swearing off drugstore cosmetic brands because I use and love a number of these products (I’ll share them soon), however, there’s something to be said about high/higher-end brands and the overall quality of their products.

Quality doesn’t have to come with an outrageous price either! Just because the foundations I’m reviewing for you tonight are considered high-end/prestige brands does not mean you can’t score them at a discount! In fact, I didn’t pay retail for any of these! I’ll tell you how below!

Here are my all-time favorite liquid foundations!

Yves Saint Laurent: TOUCHE ECLAT LE TEINT Radiance Awakening Foundation – Yikes that was a mouth full! For me, this is the holy grail of liquid foundation. It’s my go-to, ride or die, year-round foundation! There is just absolutely nothing like this stuff. It was first introduced to me during a Sephora beauty class. The instructor recommended it for my dry skin. I ended up taking a sample home with me and by the time it had run out, conveniently enough, I received a “10% off ANY item” coupon from Sephora. Honestly, I loved it, but there was no way I was about to spend nearly $60 on a bottle of foundation. With this coupon, though, I felt a little better! Although this was the most I’ve ever spent on a single cosmetic item, I personally feel it was a great investment. This foundation stays put, it’s so lightweight but has great coverage, it hydrates without leaving that oily look, and gives my skin the loveliest glow. It’s SPF 22 too, and normally sunscreen in any makeup item bothers me but with this, it’s absolutely unnoticeable. Hands down, this is one of the best liquid foundations out there!

YSL Foundation Cayley CoutureStila: illuminating liquid foundation – This is another favorite! I came across this foundation at my local TJ Maxx for $13 (normally over $30) so I had to try it out. Stila never disappoints so I figured I had nothing to lose! It wears great but runs more on the dewy side (I typically prefer a matte finish). It’s a lighter coverage foundation and there’s a pinch of shimmer in it. Every time I wear it, someone tells me I’m “glowing”. That’s how I realized there was shimmer in the formula! It’s very subtle but definitely illuminating. The only real issue I have with this is that it doesn’t easily wash out of my brushes unless I use Dawn dish soap. The other thing, unfortunately, is that it’s no longer for sale through Stila, Ulta, or Sephora! Poke around at stores like TJ Maxx though and you might just find some! I bought this over the summer but recently saw a few bottles on TJ Maxx’s shelves.

Smashbox: Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Hydrating foundation – Smashbox wasn’t kidding when they promised 15-hour wear! This is some heavy-duty makeup right here. I only wear this when I know I’m going to have a long day. I love that it stays all day and keeps my t-zone oil free but….. I wouldn’t say it’s the most comfortable. It makes my skin feel stiff. It’s only doing its job though. It also takes a bit longer to dry. If I’m rushing to get ready in the morning and I apply my finishing powder too soon, my face looks extremely cakey. I like this foundation and would recommend it to any on-the-go boss babe, but out of the three foundations, it’s high maintenance if that makes sense. It needs a good 5-10 minutes to fully dry but after that, it’s magic! I bought this right from Smashbox.com and signed up to received e-mails from them which saved me 20% off my first purchase!

I hope this liquid foundation rundown helped for anyone in the market for something new! These are my top 3 faves right now but they may not be your cup of tea and that’s ok! Each of these is designed to do something different. We all have different skin concerns but for those of you with dryer, dull skin – these are my recommendations!

Do you have a foundation that you can’t live without right now? Comment below! I’d love to hear your top pick! Do you use any of these? Did they work for you?
