It’s almost the weekend! You’re almost there, beautiful! In the meantime, let’s talk foundation!
I can hardly remember what life was like before I started investing in quality cosmetics! Ok, that probably sounds a bit dramatic… but I’m serious. Ooof! In high school and most of college, I was an avid drugstore cosmetic girl. I grabbed my foundation, mascara, lip gloss, and finishing powder from stores like Walmart! And paying $9 for a bottle of foundation was pushing it. I was definitely not concerned with the ingredients either.
I smeared that cheap, drying, and most likely harmful foundation on my face and went on with my day. By about 3 in the afternoon, it had worn off anyway. Looking back, I wasted a ton of money. The older and wiser I got, the more I realized that ingredients matter and sometimes splurging on a product that proves itself safe is worth it in the long run.
Of course the price tag on some of these prestige skincare items still makes me queasy but now that I have the resources and the knowledge, I’m happy to explore products with outstanding reputations. If I’m able to see dramatic differences, then I’m willing to spend a little more!
Now I’m not completely swearing off drugstore cosmetic brands because I use and love a number of these products (I’ll share them soon), however, there’s something to be said about high/higher-end brands and the overall quality of their products.
Quality doesn’t have to come with an outrageous price either! Just because the foundations I’m reviewing for you tonight are considered high-end/prestige brands does not mean you can’t score them at a discount! In fact, I didn’t pay retail for any of these! I’ll tell you how below!
Here are my all-time favorite liquid foundations!
Yves Saint Laurent: TOUCHE ECLAT LE TEINT Radiance Awakening Foundation – Yikes that was a mouth full! For me, this is the holy grail of liquid foundation. It’s my go-to, ride or die, year-round foundation! There is just absolutely nothing like this stuff. It was first introduced to me during a Sephora beauty class. The instructor recommended it for my dry skin. I ended up taking a sample home with me and by the time it had run out, conveniently enough, I received a “10% off ANY item” coupon from Sephora. Honestly, I loved it, but there was no way I was about to spend nearly $60 on a bottle of foundation. With this coupon, though, I felt a little better! Although this was the most I’ve ever spent on a single cosmetic item, I personally feel it was a great investment. This foundation stays put, it’s so lightweight but has great coverage, it hydrates without leaving that oily look, and gives my skin the loveliest glow. It’s SPF 22 too, and normally sunscreen in any makeup item bothers me but with this, it’s absolutely unnoticeable. Hands down, this is one of the best liquid foundations out there!
Stila: illuminating liquid foundation – This is another favorite! I came across this foundation at my local TJ Maxx for $13 (normally over $30) so I had to try it out. Stila never disappoints so I figured I had nothing to lose! It wears great but runs more on the dewy side (I typically prefer a matte finish). It’s a lighter coverage foundation and there’s a pinch of shimmer in it. Every time I wear it, someone tells me I’m “glowing”. That’s how I realized there was shimmer in the formula! It’s very subtle but definitely illuminating. The only real issue I have with this is that it doesn’t easily wash out of my brushes unless I use Dawn dish soap. The other thing, unfortunately, is that it’s no longer for sale through Stila, Ulta, or Sephora! Poke around at stores like TJ Maxx though and you might just find some! I bought this over the summer but recently saw a few bottles on TJ Maxx’s shelves.
Smashbox: Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Hydrating foundation – Smashbox wasn’t kidding when they promised 15-hour wear! This is some heavy-duty makeup right here. I only wear this when I know I’m going to have a long day. I love that it stays all day and keeps my t-zone oil free but….. I wouldn’t say it’s the most comfortable. It makes my skin feel stiff. It’s only doing its job though. It also takes a bit longer to dry. If I’m rushing to get ready in the morning and I apply my finishing powder too soon, my face looks extremely cakey. I like this foundation and would recommend it to any on-the-go boss babe, but out of the three foundations, it’s high maintenance if that makes sense. It needs a good 5-10 minutes to fully dry but after that, it’s magic! I bought this right from Smashbox.com and signed up to received e-mails from them which saved me 20% off my first purchase!
I hope this liquid foundation rundown helped for anyone in the market for something new! These are my top 3 faves right now but they may not be your cup of tea and that’s ok! Each of these is designed to do something different. We all have different skin concerns but for those of you with dryer, dull skin – these are my recommendations!
